Sikkens is a division of AkzoNobel Coatings. The Sikkens brand is actively marketed in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Austria, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Sikkens products are also exported to many other countries.
The brand was founded in Groningen in 1792 and moved to Sassenheim in 1938. This is still the heart of the Sikkens organisation. Both for car repair lacquers and for construction paints, the management of the brand is done from Sassenheim.
We mainly cater to the professional market, but you can also find us in the DIY market and local paint stores.
When we were asked to participate in the Mark-it-Down project we were immediately enthusiastic about the concept.
Sikkens stands for "craftsmanship" and the unique story and intention behind the project was a perfect match. Not only are we there for the professional painter, but we also do what we can for sustainability and society.
In times of COVID, the cultural sector is having a hard time and this way we could do our bit to create something in which our speciality, paint, meets the creativity of international artists and blossoms into a gigantic work of art in the public space that can be viewed by everyone.
The paint used for this project is Wapex 650 and Alphatex IQ. These two products allow us to retain the artwork's colour for as long as possible without wear, so that everyone can enjoy it for as long as it lasts.
It has been quite a project, but we are proud of the result and the fact that we were able to play a part in it.
