(35 – Dutch - based in Arnhem)

I have been drawing and painting most of my life.

After the art academy I worked as a fulltime artist for a year, but I wanted to learn more about nature and took a study in forest and nature management. Following  that I travelled Europe for free climbing and now, I work as a soil engineer.

Art for me is a way of contemplation. When I work on a piece the rest of the world disappears. Normally, I sketch intuitively, and then during the process a work is created. Nature is always present. I feel that nature is not something that exists outside of us. We are nature, it is part of what and who we are.

This is what I want to achieve with my work; that people see the connection. The mountains are where I feel most inspired, the stillness, the sense of being one with the surroundings. My other source of inspiration is my vegetable garden where my purpose is to make nature thrive and create a harvest for me and other beings.

I think MARKITDOWN is a cool way to integrate art into society, making it accessible and visible and it sure brightens up the boring grey city walls. MARKITDOWN also offers artists like me a way to exhibit their art to a broader public.

For this work I made several sketches and measured everything so it would fit on the wall on the correct scale. I have never done a mural of this size and it was a lot of fun to make it. Now I know I can do it and I'm really happy with the result.

This project gave me a serious incentive to scale up my work and I hope the future brings on more colourfully painted walls.
